We never set out to make a candle for the world. We set out to make the perfect candle for one person.

The candle we grew up with

Every family has a smell that means home. Ours was candlelight, in our grandmother's flat in Paris. She lit candles the way other people put on music: one for Sunday lunches, one for birthdays, one for rainy Wednesdays when nothing special was happening at all. “The flame makes it special,” she'd say.

She gave us that. This brand is our way of giving it back.

Years later, we were still lighting candles for every occasion, but the candles had stopped deserving the moments. Beautiful jars that tunnelled down the middle and gave up with half their wax untouched. Black smoke that stained the shelf. A drawer full of half-burnt jars, too pretty to bin, too far gone to light. So we decided to build the candle she deserved.

Then we found it: wax pearls

Tiny beads of plant-based wax you pour into any vessel you love, add a wick, and light. Only the pearls around the flame melt, so it never tunnels. When it's done, you pour again, and it's a brand-new candle. Shea and coconut wax instead of paraffin, a clean burn with no black smoke, and a flame that puts itself out if the candle tips over.

That smile

The first box we ever made went to her, of course. She poured the pearls into her favourite old ceramic bowl, lit the wick, watched the flame for a long moment, and smiled. That smile is the standard every Warmnest candle has been held to since.

A nest is not a place you visit. It's a place you keep.

We called it Warmnest, because that was the only word for her living room. We're still just the two of us, a brother and sister, not a candle corporation. Every decision still gets made the way it started: around a family table, asking whether our grandmother would have approved.
